Field Day Symposium

A symposium in the spirit of Field Day, a day devoted to competitive play in the form of physical competition and absurdist games. This symposium will look at ways that contemporary artists have used games to activate social spaces and will use the act of play as a mode of dialogue upon the broader social and political discourses games may activate.

The symposium will look at competition from digital, analog, team, and individual lenses with a specific focus on how artists use games within public space. The symposium will feature a full day of play based programming in which games will be presented, played, toyed with and discussed. The event will close out with a series of lighting talks by artists who use play in their work as well as a Silent Disco dance party presented by SAIC’s Free Radio.
